The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project Area is a seven and a half mile corridor beginning in Maryland and connecting to Virginia by a bridge over the Potomac River. The Project consists of the replacement of the existing Woodrow Wilson
Bridge and the Upgrading of four interchanges to ease traffic congestion within
the
Project Area.
During the August 26 and 27 morning rush hour, many commuters were inconvenienced by signal issues around the Telegraph Road and Huntington Avenue interchange. After examination, it was determined that the clock in the Huntington Avenue signal box had malfunctioned, sending non-peak travel instructions to the signals. The issue has been fixed and we will continue to monitor this signal to make sure the problem does not continue. For the Thursday, August 28th rush hour, we will have a traffic engineer monitoring the situation in order to quickly make any necessary changes.
In preparation of the start of the school year and the expected influx of vehicles in the Burgundy Hills area, the Wilson Bridge Project has asked that Fairfax County Police provide assistance on September 2nd to help ensure that traffic flows smoothly. Analysis of this areas traffic patterns will continue throughout September for any additional adjustments that may be needed.
Again, we regret any inconvenience this may have caused you and we appreciate your continued patience with the construction in the area. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge project looks forward to delivering a new, grade-separated Telegraph Road Interchange that will ultimately improve traffic flow, as well as provide easier and safer pedestrian access.
