Rosalie Island is an integral part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project. In the future, it will provide access to National Harbor and pedestrian and bicycle paths to other County planned connecting systems. Currently the Island provides a wildlife sanctuary for bald eagles and its coves are home to fish in the project area.
The island's north side will be preserved in its natural environment - minimal work is required to carry the pedestrian/bikeway from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the deck-over crossing the Beltway, and over to the south side where a park setting will be featured. The current concept, developed in cooperation with the Maryland Interchanges Stakeholder Participation Panel is shown below.
