Virginia Approach Spans
View of the construction of the v-pier segments in Jones Point Park , Alexandria . The construction method used in Jones Point Park is a pre-cast method. The segments are constructed on-site in two casting beds and then trucked on a flatbed to their ultimate location. The casting yard is currently not in use because all segments for the Outer Loop have been cast and will be placed during the winter. The casting will start again in Spring 2005 for production of the Inner Loop segments To date a total of 186 out of 230 segments have been placed. This v-pier segment is awaiting the next section of steel beams (February 2005 timeframe). The steel erection process is moving west to east (from the Virginia abutment to the Potomac River).
