The MD 210 Interchange project involves the complete reconstruction of the existing interchange beginning west of the existing Bald Eagle Road bridge and extending east 1.2 miles to near Livingstone Road. Ramps at MD 210 would be reconstructed in the northwest, northeast, and southeast quadrants, providing access between the local lanes and MD 210/Oxen Hill Road. In addition, depending on available funding, reconstruction of the MD 210 Interchange will include the provision of a grade separated new interchange at MD 210/Oxon Hill Road, including loop ramps in the southeast and southwest quadrants of this intersection. Bald Eagle Road over the Beltway will be reconstructed to provide pedestrian/bicyclists and vehicular access to Oxon Hill children's farm.
If full funding for the MD 210 interchange is provided (the current budget includes sufficient funds for approximately two-thirds of the ultimate interchange), a total of 14 lane miles of new mainline pavement for the Beltway and 10 lane miles of pavement for interchange ramps would be provided (total pavement area approximately 141,000 SY). Also when reconstruction is completed, a total of 9 new bridges encompassing nearly 200,000 square feet of bridge deck, retaining walls encompassing approximately 252,000 square feet of surface area and potentially 136,000 square yards of sound barriers will have been completed.
Critical environmental issues at the MD 210 Interchange include the Flintstone Elementary School and residences located in the northeast quadrant, Oxon Hill Farm/Butler House and residences in the northwest quadrant, and the Forest Heights Baptist Church located in the southeast quadrant. Three occupied residences and one unoccupied residence would be displaced in the northeast quadrant; MSHA's salt dome in the southwest quadrant would also be displaced by the reconstruction of the MD 210 Interchange. Major utility impacts are also anticipated at the MD 210 Interchange.
