Ramp/Lane Closures at Telegraph Road Interchange

Week of April 18

Motorists Urged to Find Alternate Routes

As part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, construction activities occurring throughout the Capital Beltway (I-95/495) Telegraph Road interchange will require lane and ramp closures the week of April 18. During this work, contractors will demolish ramp and bridge piers and complete grading operations.

From Monday night, Apr. 19 through Friday morning, Apr. 23, overnight demolition activities will continue over active travel lanes along the Beltway and Telegraph Road North, requiring closures that are only authorized at night for safety reasons. For the benefit of nearby residents, real-time noise monitoring will be occurring overnight to ensure noise does not exceed predetermined thresholds. Noise levels are expected to be low to moderate.

For the protection of motorists, overnight lane and ramp closures, and in some instances short, intermittent full closures are required while this demolition work occurs. The scheduled closures are as follows:

Inner Loop (I-95-495 South)

Daily, Monday, Apr. 19 through Thursday, Apr. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • The Inner Loop will be narrowed to two lanes between the Metro overpass and the Beltway Bridge over Cameron Run.

Nightly, Monday, Apr. 19 through Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • Traffic will be narrowed on the Inner Loop to one lane between the Metro overpass and the Beltway Bridge over Cameron Run.
  • Full Inner Loop closures of up to 20 minutes are possible after midnight to saw and lift portions of the demolished bridge.

Outer Loop (I-95/495 North)

Daily, Monday, Apr. 19 through Thursday, Apr. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • The Outer Loop will be narrowed to two lanes between the Beltway Bridge over Cameron Run and the Metro overpass.

Nightly, Monday, Apr. 19 through Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:

  • Traffic will be narrowed on the Outer Loop to one lane between the Beltway Bridge over Cameron Run and the Metro overpass.
  • Full Inner Loop closures of up to 20 minutes are possible after midnight to saw and lift portions of the demolished bridge.

Telegraph Road

Daily, Monday, Apr. 19 through Thursday, Apr. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • Telegraph Road North will be narrowed to one lane between Huntington Avenue and Pershing Avenue.
  • The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Outer Loop will be closed for roadway construction.
    • Detour: Traffic should take the ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Inner Loop to the ramp at Telegraph Road South to the Outer Loop.

Nightly, between Sunday, Apr. 18 to Friday, Apr. 23 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Telegraph Road North and South will be narrowed to one lane between Huntington Avenue and Pershing Avenue.
  • The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Inner Loop will be closed for roadway construction.
    • Detour: Traffic should take the ramp from the turn right onto Pershing Avenue, left on Stovall Street, left at Mill Road to Telegraph Road South to the Inner Loop ramp.

Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes to their destinations to avoid delays. Please use caution when traveling in this area. All construction-related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, material and contractor availability or other unforeseen conditions.
